Methodologies and Tools for International Film Promotion

Promoting a film abroad often involves methodologies and tools different from those used in Italy. Specifically, promoting a film internationally may require drafting types of scripts not yet used in Italy, such as CCSL, CDSL, PLDL, or AS-BROADCAST SCRIPT.

CSL - Combined Continuity and Spotting List

EmmeciVideo is currently the only company in Italy that drafts CCSL and CDSL, so if you are a production studio planning to promote your films abroad, do not hesitate to contact us to create the script following the exact specifications.

The CCSL, or Combined Continuity and Spotting List, is one of the most used script formats abroad. It is an exhaustive post-production screenplay that meets almost all the requirements of the distributor or broadcaster.

The transcription of the CCSL must respect the continuity of the action. The "continuity script" is an accurate transcription of the images, with the reference time code and indications of specific actions, characters, and audio. It includes every shot of the film. Characters are indicated every time they speak a line, and their position in the action (foreground, off-screen, etc.) is also specified. It also includes sound effects relevant to the narrative (such as a cough, scream, or indication if a character is crying or laughing while speaking the line). The time codes of the dialogue lines are carefully synchronized to the frame, as well as the graphics that appear, both those added later and those belonging to the photography.

In addition to the CCSL, there is the CDSL, Combined Dialogue and Spotting List. It is an accurate script that presents the dialogues also in the form of subtitles. Unlike the CCSL, it does not include scene descriptions.

PLDL - Pivot Language Dialogue List

PLDL - Pivot Language Dialogue List

Another type of script, the PLDL, Pivot Language Dialogue List, is somewhat more known in Italy, as it is used by major streaming platforms as a base to create subtitles in many languages. It contains all dialogues, literally detected, with time codes and the indication of the speaking character, the English translation of the dialogues, and all the graphics, also with their time codes.

We create the PLDL in Excel files or in formats provided by the client. Our operators are familiar with the different features of these scripts and are adept at using both the formats and online tools. Thanks to our experience, we can also utilize new formats or new online platforms.

If you need to promote your film abroad and need to create one of these specific scripts, write to us to plan the phases and timings of the work together.
